Description:
OVERVIEW
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Engineer to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario.
Thurber Engineering Ltd. is a Canadian Consulting Engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, pavement engineering, and construction materials inspection and testing. Our project work includes transportation and municipal infrastructure, natural hazards, land development, and more.
As a Thurber team member, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team. You will work with our Ontario environmental team and our local geotechnical team to support our clients.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS
- University degree in Environmental Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field;
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in environmental engineering, preferably as a consulting engineer;
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Ontario;
- Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License;
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills;
- Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills;
- Ability to work both independently and in a team in various environments;
- Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting Phase I ESAs/Assessment of Past Uses;
- Project planning and coordination for environmental site investigations;
- Preparing sampling and analysis plans;
- Preparation of Soil Characterization Reports (SCRs) and Excess Soil Destination Assessment Reports (ESDARs);
- Construction stage support related to excess soil management;
- Coordination with clients and other project team disciplines;
- Preparation of proposals and working with colleagues from other offices or disciplines in the development of new business opportunities;
- Management of project schedules and budgets;
- Supervise the work of technologists and junior engineers, and provide technical direction;
- Mentoring and development of junior staff; and,
- Progressive interaction with clients.
This is an intermediate-level position based primarily in the office with expectations to conduct field visits and assist with field programs as required. There will be opportunities for continued career growth within the company.
