Description:
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer with local experience to join our team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.
As our Engineer, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS
- A degree in Civil or Geological Engineering;
- Progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably as a consulting engineer;
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan.
- Post-graduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred
- A high level of proficiency with current geotechnical software applications;
- Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Strong technical, oral, and written communication skills; and,
- Ability to work both independently and in a team in various environments.
Responsibilities:
- Management of geotechnical investigations, including subsurface site programs, selection of laboratory test regimes, interpretation, and documentation of results;
- Geotechnical analyses of stability, stress, deformation, and foundation response, utilizing a suite of software routines;
- Prepare and write proposals and technical reports;
- Carry out field inspection of construction works;
- Installation and operation of instrumentation including piezometers, inclinometers, and survey equipment;
- Review and interpretation of instrumentation results;
- Management of project schedules and budgets;
- Supervise the work of technologists and junior engineers, and provide technical direction;
- Mentoring and development of junior staff; and,
- Progressive interaction with clients.
This is an intermediate level position based primarily in the office with expectations to conduct field visits and assist with field programs as required. There will be opportunity for continued career growth within the company.
