Description:

SRK Consulting is an international firm of specialist consultants who focus mainly on the mining industry. We employ over 1,600 professionals in 44 offices on 6 continents. The Canadian Groundwater Group currently has 13 staff with experience in physical and chemical hydrogeology and modeling. There are more than 25 hydrogeologists in SRK North America and more than 60 in SRK around the world.
We are seeking an intermediate hydrogeological modeler with experience and aptitude producing a conceptualization of the geological and hydrogeological controls of a model and integrating those into a numerical model to address key issues and questions.
This position will be based in our Vancouver office. Remote location work will not be possible.

Responsibilities:

The position will be part of the Groundwater Group, with a focus on groundwater modelling backed by a strong understanding of geology and field data collection, but will also support other needs of the hydrogeology, mining, geochemistry, and engineering groups. The candidate will be expected to understand, apply, lead, and review sound modelling practices for physical flow, contaminant transport, pore pressure distributions, uncertainty analysis, and support for other disciplines with other types of modelling. The candidate will participate actively to support all levels of mineral resource studies, from preliminary economic assessments to feasibility studies, permitting studies (environmental assessments to mine permit applications), operational support and research programs related to the mining industry. The ability to characterize hydrogeological systems, conceptualize, and construct 3D numerical models of groundwater systems will be key, but not exclusive to the position’s objectives. The position may include other components, including development of conceptual models in coordination with geochemists, structural geologists and geotechnical engineers; hydrogeological, hydrological, or geotechnical field work, as lead or support; development of inputs to water and load balance models; estimates of pit or underground inflows; remedial options analysis; contributing to engineering designs; and, interpreting data on constructed remediation systems.

The successful candidate will interact closely with hydrogeology and other discipline team members from junior to principal levels and will have a role in managing tasks and junior staff to achieve project goals and timelines, prepare reports and presentations for internal or external audiences. There will be many opportunities to work with experts in a variety of fields to learn and grow their consulting career.

  • A minimum of a masters or higher degree in geology, geological/civil engineering, or physical geography, with emphasis on geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, environmental engineering, and geotechnical (rock) skills.Â
  • At least three years of consulting or mining experience, preferably among the disciplines listed. Â
  • Technical proficiency in groundwater numerical modelling (finite difference and/or finite element – FEFLOWâ„¢ preferred).Â
  • Proficiency in coding and statistics.Â
  • Experience with or proficiency in 3D geological modelling software (Leapfrogâ„¢ preferred).Â
  • Self-motivated with a desire to work both as part of multi-disciplinary teams and independently. Â
  • Able to work long hours in the field, tolerating remote and variable weather conditions.Â
  • Strong writing skills.Â
  • Excellent oral and presentation skills.Â
  • Professional registration in BC or current eligibility to obtain it.Â
  • Valid driver’s license valid for use in Canada with a good driving record.Â
  • Currently eligible to work in Canada.Â

This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include international travel.
