GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices in Ontario and Atlantic Canada, and we are looking for a motivated and experienced Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our Team. We currently have an opening for an Intermediate Hydrogeologist in our Greater Toronto Area operation. The position provides the opportunity to support and grow the existing Environmental Science Team in our Oshawa or Mississauga offices. You will work with a team of hydrogeologists, engineers, and environmental scientists to competently manage hydrogeological projects in support of land development, infrastructure and water supply objectives.
The successful candidate will have the following:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Earth Science, Geological Engineering or similar with a demonstrated emphasis in physical hydrogeology.
  • Registration with Professional Geoscientists Ontario or Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience in completing and managing hydrogeological field programs.
  • Strong knowledge of the application of physical hydrogeology, including hydrogeological site characterization, hydraulic testing, construction dewatering, water balance (hydrologic budget) and Low Impact Development, water supply, source water protection, private servicing, and a variety of monitoring programs.
  • Familiarity with software packages related or specific to physical hydrogeology (Aqtesolv, Surfer, Leap Frog, Excel, Access, EQuIS). Groundwater flow and transport modelling experience considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s regulatory framework for groundwater takings, drinking water supply and quality, source water protection, and well construction.
  • Knowledge of local Conservation Authority regulatory framework for land development and source water protection consider as asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with managing consulting projects from proposal through to completion.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime, as required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Proposal and budget preparation, hydrogeological program development and implementation, associated analysis and reporting.
  • Implementation, management, supervision and/or technical support for a wide variety of hydrogeological field programs, including drilling and coring, test pit excavation, monitoring, test and municipal well construction, hydraulic response testing, sampling of soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water and gas, and infiltration rate testing.
  • Competent management of consulting projects, including scope development, field program implementation, reporting, accounting and budget management, project team and resources management, client and regulator communications.
  • Excellence in report preparation, including data synthesis, assessment, interpretation, modelling, technical writing and presentation.
  • Verbal and visual presentations to clients, regulators and the public.
  • Training and mentoring of junior and technical staff.
  • Client development support.
  • Ability to work in teams and with different technical disciplines.
  • Continuing professional development.
