THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for an Intermediate to Senior Water Quality Scientist / Engineer to join our team. You will be part of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Water Quality assessment team in western Canada, bringing your talent and expertise to support our diverse clients with their permitting and monitoring needs. The position is based in western Canada, with the option of you sitting in one of our Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver offices.
Our team is the largest in North America with over 30 Water Quality Scientists with a wide range of expertise practicing in the areas of assessment and modelling. We work on fast paced, and multi-component projects with clients in the metal mining, municipal, and oil and gas sectors. These projects involve the e valuation of discharge to aquatic environments, water and sediment quality assessments, environmental effects monitoring, and baseline data collection and analysis. Within our team, we foster a collaborative learning environment with opportunities for senior and peer mentorship, career growth, and technical and soft skills development. You will also have opportunities to provide input on a wide range of water quality projects that would benefit from your chemistry, biology, risk assessment, toxicology, or related expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on projects for various industries with a focus on mining and natural resources sectors.
  • Project work will take you from Northwest Territories to BC/Alberta, and beyond, and you will be working on some of the largest mine closure, exploration, and active mining projects in Canada for the federal government as well as corporations.

  • You will be designing, planning, and overseeing field programs, including baseline and operations monitoring, aquatic effects monitoring, and construction monitoring.
  • You will be managing and analyzing large datasets, interpreting measured and modelled data, and providing quality control for data collection, management, and analysis.
  • You will apply your in-depth knowledge of water quality related protocols, standards, guidelines, regulations, licensing and permitting requirements.
  • You will be supervising, training, and mentoring junior staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills.
  • You will plan and author, with support from junior staff, technical reports, memorandums, responses to information requests from regulators, and other technical and communication deliverables.
  • You will prepare presentations for internal teams, clients, and regulators and may be asked to participate in meetings and present to clients.
  • You will be using various tools and models to evaluate potential effects on water quality.
  • You will be responsible for preparing proposals, as well as managing and controlling projects.
  • You will be collaborating on project work with other technical teams across the company, including aquatic biologists, toxicologists, geochemists, hydrogeologists, and hydrologists to support applications for environmental permits, water licences, and approvals from regulatory agencies.
  • You will provide technical support to clients for regulatory liaison and engagement with Indigenous Groups, stakeholders, and the public.
  • You will be networking within the water quality and other technical teams, developing project teams, and interacting with clients.You will be collaborating with a caring team and will have a mentor assigned to you that will be fully committed to provide career advice and guidance on a regular basis and support your career growth and development.
