CONTRACT POSITION

H2nanO is expanding our environmental consulting operations and is seeking an intermediate biologist with an interest in wetland systems to join our dynamic team. The successful applicant will complete a wide variety of pre-planning and environmental services, including wildlife sweeps, soil surveys, and wetland assessment impact reports. This is a contract position and allows for a flexible work schedule with the potential for travel to client sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a P.Biol or P.Ag and Qualified Wetland Science Practitioner (QWSP) designation or equivalent considered an asset.
  • Previous experience completing one or more field assessments listed previously.
  • Understanding and knowledge of regulatory policies and regulations pertaining to Alberta’s Water Act, Wildlife Act, Wetland Policy and federal Fisheries Act.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional time management and co-ordination capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and conduct fieldwork in remote locations, travel between project locations and physically capable and competent in various environmental conditions.
  • Valid First Aid, Class 5 driver’s license and wildlife awareness training required.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive wetland delineations and assessments in accordance with the Alberta Wetland Policy.
  • Conduct field assessments including but not limited to wetlands, watercourses, wildlife, vegetation and soils.
  • Identify flora and fauna including rare and endangered species.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to relay with clients and provide project status updates and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior staff in support of regulatory permitting processes.
  • Analyze and interpret field data and communicate findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Drafting, review, and submission of proposals and professional technical reports.
  • Maintain instrumentation and equipment for safe and high-quality field work.
