Description:

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Mechanical Engineering will be responsible for assisting the mechanical team in the successful completion of engineering tasks. This is a unique opportunity that will provide you with exposure to marine mechanical systems from the design and concept preparation phases. The incumbent will work closely with System Responsible Engineers on the Multi Purpose Vessel (MPV) and the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) supporting Basic Design Development tasks. Namely, you will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing design schematics and a 3D system model to support contract design requirements.
  • Support the development/maintenance of the vessel’s bill of materials
  • Support the vessel’s design acceptance
  • Support the development/update of design requirements
  • Support the production team as needed
