The Position

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

The Technology and Science (T&S) team within Diagnostics Partnering combines trusted scientific experts to enable innovative solutions for Roche Diagnostics by providing essential insights and foresights from internal and external partners. We provide trusted recommendations, through technology landscapes, internal project reviews, scouting and assessments of technologies and biomarkers. With this master thesis project, we would like to expand the lens to which we consider external technologies and opportunities beyond commercialization and technical aspects, to actively and purposefully consider environmental impact and sustainability as a parameter in our recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Education: enrolled Master’s student
  • Professional experience/duration: 6 months
  • Specialist knowledge: chemical or environmental engineering, material science, physics, biology or chemistry, interest and experience in sustainability and ESG topics

PERIOD: FROM SEPTEMBER 2024 FOR A PERIOD OF 6 MONTHS.

Responsibilities:

  • Thesis topic will be collaboratively defined and specified with the support of an university supervisor
  • Compile known expectations from major clinical laboratories worldwide and known activities of major competitors around sustainability
  • Describe known dimensions of sustainability relevant to the technologies and materials applicable to diagnostics and quantifiable aspects to measure each dimension
  • Create a map of sustainability challenges applicable to the technologies and materials relevant to diagnostics along with applicable solutions under the constraints of technology maturity and commercial availability
  • Derive recommendations on applying dimensions of sustainability to technology and opportunity assessments with concrete examples and test cases
