Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for implementing strategies to support international applicants, and increase the number of international students from targeted countries. This position will advise prospective students and families and provide information about admission requirements. In addition to on-campus recruitment activities for targeted groups, this position will assist in processing and determining admission eligibility for international applicants, through records evaluation and communication with applicants, faculty and other institutions as appropriate. Reviews correspondence and supplemental information and evaluates transcripts, test scores and evaluation service reports to determine admission eligibility to assist in their recruitment efforts.
In addition, the incumbent will work collaboratively with SDSU Enrollment Services, the Office of Admissions, SDSU Global Campus, International Student Center, academic departments, and other offices on campus to support the international undergraduate and graduate students.

As part of this position, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Providing admission advising to international students engaging with the International Recruitment office throughout the stages of the admission process (prospect, applicant, admit, and pre-arrival).
  • Implement recruitment strategies to increase the number of international prospects, applicants and enrollees. Travel will be required to implement recruiting strategies in targeted regions.
  • Support international graduate applicants and work closely with Graduate Admissions evaluators, supporting their collection and review of documents, to ensure files are completed and sent to the departments for review.
  • Assisting in the receipt of official international student documents and managing the tracking to ensure documents are processed and returned to students.
  • Utilizing my.SDSU (PeopleSoft Campus Solutions) and SLATE (CRM) to identify and analyze the status of applications, providing guidance to applicants on required documents needed for file completion and steps to enroll.
  • Providing on-going input and feedback on the email communication and admission web sites to ensure the information provided is current, accurate, and appropriate.
  • Providing on-going feedback to Director on print materials needed for international graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Reviews correspondence and supplemental information and evaluates transcripts, test scores and evaluation service reports to determine admission eligibility.
  • Support sponsored students throughout the recruitment and application process.
  • Assist in creating international training materials to support student assistants working in the International Recruitment office.
  • Providing on-going training to student assistants to support prospective, applicant and admitted international students.
  • Working closely with Graduate Program Advisors to support their admission processes and effectively communicate with students procedures to ensure timely completion.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

Enrollment Services is comprised of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Prospective Student Services, Out of State, Specialized and International Recruitment, and Enrollment Services Communications. Enrollment Services implements SDSU enrollment management policies and provides services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation.
The incumbent will be part of an Enrollment Services unit, which is primarily responsible for international student recruitment. The unit consists of the director, international admission advisors, and administrative support staff and several student assistants supporting the efforts of this team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
