A Moving Experience.
Two of our most important lexical resources are the pronunciation lexicon and our rule-based morphological generation system. Both are interlinked as we generate inflected forms and their pronunciations through morphological paradigms from the lemma.
We have a rather big lexicon and morphological system for Russian, but it requires clean-up and simplification, while we also would like to have a system to a) find the stress of Russian words automatically as that would make generating pronunciations completely automatable and b) automatically assign a morphological paradigm to an unseen word. In particular, we are interested in doing this for named entities, which might be foreign (and transliterated into Cyrillic). Cleaning up automatically would likely rely on the same techniques as resolving this problem for new words.
The internship would consist of implementing a system for either or both of the systems in such a way that it’s usable for clean-up, unseen words and would be extendible to other Slavic languages.
