The Analyst will work with portfolio managers and other team members to seek out attractive risk-adjusted investment opportunities in the Securitized Products markets, focusing specifically on CLO and ABS securities, for a variety of investment strategies with a focus on capital preservation. The Analyst is expected to perform comprehensive credit analysis, evaluating entire capital structures with an emphasis on expanding Empower’s depth and coverage in these asset classes. The Analyst will be responsible for conducting regular surveillance of existing positions, maintaining awareness of macroeconomic, market and industry developments and effectively communicating findings to portfolio managers and other team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate collateral and structure of securitized investments, focusing on Broadly Syndicated Loan CLO as well as ABS transactions in the Auto, Student Loan (Private and FFELP), Credit Card and Equipment sectors.
  • Create and conduct scenario analyses using Intex to identify and test sources and mitigants of risk and assess the relative value of specific investment opportunities in both primary and secondary markets.
  • Conduct regular surveillance of all holdings within your sector across all portfolios, evaluate collateral trends and conduct stress case analysis, summarize, and communicate findings to the investment team.
  • Assist the lead CLO analyst in reviewing documents for CLO deals available in the primary market and make recommendations for alterations to offering documentation prior to investment.
  • Assist the CLO structuring team with duties specific to the issuance of CLO tranches off the Empower platform.
  • Keep abreast of macroeconomic, industry and issuer-specific trends and track all relevant drivers of performance.
  • Develop and maintain loss models used to evaluate potential and existing investments.
  • Review model results and reconcile with actuarial and accounting records.
  • Conduct reviews as prescribed by the group’s portfolio monitoring guidelines and communicate findings to the investment team. Maintain a database for the group’s monitoring history.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all investment policies and company specific guidelines.
  • Assist in the effort to continuously improve the scalability of the team’s investment process.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assisting with Board investment summaries, quarterly reporting packages, credit ratings change memos, and other ad hoc reporting.
