Description:
Johnstone Supply, North Americas leading wholesale distributor of HVACR equipment, parts, and supplies has a great opportunity for an IT Business Analyst to join our team. As a member of the Information Technology Solutions team, the Business Analyst is responsible for contributing to the development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-wide programs, and makes recommendations in areas that require a moderate to high level of technical competency. This is a hybrid role requiring 1-2 days in office in Portland, Oregon or Dallas, Texas.
The individual selected for this role will have the chance to work on a growing team within an organization at the front-end of an IT transformation. Our IT Business Analysts are involved in varied and diverse work with collaborative teams.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; At least 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with software and processes in one or more relevant areas: Finance, ERP, Supply Chain (preferred), and/or Integration.
- Ability to diagnose and solve problems. Uses logic to solve problems with effective solutions; probes all different sources for answers; can see hidden problems; is effective at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn’t stop at the face value answers.
- Skilled in prioritizing multiple tasks and demands. Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish goals; uses resources effectively and efficiently arranges information and files in effective ways.
- Ability to learn quickly when facing new problems; takes initiative to learn without being asked.; open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; not afraid to ask questions.
- Ability to collaborate with business and third-party service providers.
- Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users.
- Skill in technical writing for documentation and design purposes.
- Ability to write status reports, process descriptions, and procedures.
- Skilled in facilitating and leading meetings in small group settings.

Responsibilities:
- Ensures applications meet user requirements by gathering information from users; documenting technical requirements, processes, architecture, and design deliverables; and continuously working with users to negotiate technical solutions against business requirements. Effectively communicate and define technology considerations within the context of business requirements to a business audience.
- Makes recommendations in areas that require a moderate level of technical competency, and supports project organization, execution, and participates in the design, vendor evaluation, development, implementation, and management of multiple projects.
- Maintains understanding of Johnstone’s business models, data relationships, and systems interfaces to determine requirements and formulate strategies for new and enhanced functionality.
- Manages the product or application backlog according to department standards; opportunity to set and to influence standards.
- Recommends sizing estimates for project requests and determines feasibility of implementing new systems or modifying existing systems including communication plans and training plans.
- Serves as the liaison and collaborates with internal users, external software providers, and the IT technical staff.
- Serves as primary subject-matter expert for assigned applications, mentors secondary and other analysts in that domain area.
- Assists with development to meet business requirements by analyzing business needs, testing, debugging and documenting programs and systems in alignment with department standards and practices.
- Assists with the documentation of application roadmaps to support strategic growth, including inter-related and data dependent applications, and future business needs.
- Provides ongoing client support for technical system questions and problems; serves as subject matter expert for designated systems; analyzes and performs second or third level support, coordinating with vendors and other parties as necessary, and tracks to resolution; recommends alternative workarounds for system defects until system solutions can be implemented.
- Provides troubleshooting on escalated issues for one or more applications, including on-call support where required.
- Provides technical training, guidance and resource support for end users and department staff.
- Create and manage deliverables for self-led projects; log, track and verify resolution for all project tasks to ensure business and technical scope is controlled to meet quality, timeline, and budget expectations.
- Partners with business and IT teams to determine estimates on resources and timing to meet business needs and communicates to appropriate stakeholders.
- Communicates risks and proactively recommends risk mitigation strategies to leadership.
- Shares lessons learned to identify and to implement future department improvements at IT department meetings.
