HYBRID WORK MODEL

For team members situated within 50 kms/31 miles of our five global offices in Ottawa, Eldoret, Penang, Columbus, and Amsterdam, you can expect to come into the office at least one day a week. Similarly, those near our co-working spaces in Nairobi and Toronto are encouraged to work onsite once a month.
Job Description
The IT Infrastructure Engineer is an integral member of the IT team. This individual will do their part in supporting Assent in both a proactive and reactive capacity, providing world class support to the global Assent Team. The IT Infrastructure Engineer will troubleshoot technology puzzles, create knowledge base articles and other documentation, and report issue resolution back to the affected stakeholder. The IT Infrastructure Engineer is a very thorough, professional, service-oriented, and organized individual. The ideal candidate would be based in the Ottawa area as they would need to be in close proximity to our infrastructure at HQ. The ideal candidate typically work standard hours; however, from time to time change management windows may occur outside of normal hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology.
  • MCSA: Windows Server.
  • 3-5 years of computer/server Windows System and macOS Administration and operational experience including remediating/patching systems in an Enterprise environment.
  • 2-4 years experience working in vulnerability management.
  • Experience with National institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and applying Operating Systems (OS), browser and application Security Technical Implementation guides (STIGs) would be an advantage.
  • Proficient in Nutanix Acropolis, VMware, Hyper-V, Windows Servers, AWS, Azure, Linux, operating systems.
  • Working knowledge and experience with industry standard endpoint management systems.
  • Working knowledge of scripting – preferably VBScript or PowerShell.
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • In depth knowledge and experience in systems wide audit and security controls.
  • Strong understanding of data communication concepts and network/software configuration management.
  • Basic networking understanding and skills including firewall.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory management including GPO;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English - you communicate clearly, concisely and with tact;

Responsibilities:

  • Assess vulnerability, patch information from compliance scans for various operating systems and determine application and production impacts.
  • Assess vulnerability, patch information for network equipment including WiFi and determine application and production impacts.
  • Provides remediation services based on vulnerability & policy compliance scans.
  • Assist in developing and executing project activities, strategic and tactical Patch and Configuration Management model development, and improvement of procedures and standards.
  • Assist in proactively developing patch and vulnerability management procedures and processes within the operations team and in conjunction with business and IT partners.
  • Identify and assess security deficiencies and provide remediation steps
  • Ensure patch configuration is up to date ensuring compliance.
  • Utilize tools to automate patch deployment, such as Automox, JAMF etc.
  • Show leadership working with different stakeholders globally to ensure the environment is compliant to organization’s Patch Management Process and IT Security Policies.
  • Where tools are not in place, research, propose and perform POC “Proof Of Concept” to solve specific issues and challenges.
  • Responsible for patching assets in test and production environments while ensuring quality.
  • Participate where required in the Change Advisory Board and technical review meetings to discuss patching, vulnerability impacts and considerations.
  • Change Management is key which involves keeping track of all updates, so if anything goes wrong there is a back-out plan in place.
  • Documentation of the version and configurations in order to roll back is a must.
  • Negotiate, plan and manage patch activities with both Ottawa and regional businesses offices spread geographically globally.
  • Regular audit and assessment of whether applications have been patched for known security vulnerabilities and audit reports are a must to assist the business to understand what systems need to be patched for a given vulnerability and to ensure that all systems are in compliance.
