JOB OVERVIEW / SUMMARY

The IT Stack Engineer:Network/Systems job is a technical job to manage day-to-day operations in cloud/datacenters, primarily in regards to setup, configuration and operations of virtualization layer, hardware (servers, storage), operating systems, Etc…Associated responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring the reliability, performance and security of the company’s data communication systems, ensuring its capabilities meet defined architectural requirements including, business and security requirements. You will work to maintain our network’s secured traffic infrastructure and manage our system integrity, while also maintaining hardware equipment, software and any other related components. IT Stack Engineers have responsibility for operations of virtualization layer, hardware, and operating systems. In addition, IT Stack Engineers manage both physical and logical access to configuration items and help in documenting cloud and datacenter routines. Location: This position is based in Markham, Ontario and is a hybrid of work from home and in the data center . Travel: Ability to travel up to 10%

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of virtualization (VMware), operating systems (Linux and MS), hardware configuration and installation and complex software/infrastructure solutions are required.
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP protocols (OSI Reference model) is a must have. You will need to possess a working knowledge of disaster recovery methodologies and procedures, associates security methodologies and procedures, as well as a solid understanding of operational best practices and ways of working. This role requires demonstrated experience with network automation methodologies and best practices.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot various system issues on active production environments while maintaining composure under pressure. Must be able to configure, deploy and operate the following hardware: Firewalls, Switching and routing infrastructure, and Load balancers. In addition to related security features across all disciplines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree in Computer Sciences, IT or related technical/engineering field (or experience and industry certifications will be looked at in lieu of degree)
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of IT Stack experience in similar position working in cloud or datacenter environment or 8 years of equivalent work experience
  • At least four or more years of experience in a Network/Systems Engineer role preferred specifically in Network administrations in cloud or datacenter environment
  • Certifications including Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and/or CompTIA Network+ are preferred.
  • Relevant experience in setup and configuration of virtualization layer, hardware, operating systems, firewalls, monitoring, and/or routing protocols
  • Preferably ITIL v3 foundation certification
  • Experience from setup and configuration of firewall, switches, routers and load balancers
  • Deep knowledge of network hardware and infrastructure required, including experience working with application transport, infrastructure devices, and monitoring both network analytical and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as QoS, BGP, IPSEC, OSPF and HRP.
  • Experience with TCP/IP or OSI, along with LAN, WAN, VoIP, WLAN and SAN networks.
  • Ability to effectively communicate network needs and explain required implementations to associated team members.
  • In-depth understanding of complex software/infrastructure solutions

Responsibilities:

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain our technical infrastructure, including implementing patches and various applications, developing and designing new infrastructure as needed, and more. (Workflow management via our ticketing system for daily activities)
  • Implement security measures across hardware and software in accordance to company requirements, updating associated documentation as needed.
  • Implement network based automation (Efficiency and quality of service gains)
  • Troubleshooting system and network issues and implementing solves as needed, including addressing software and hardware issues.
  • Collaborate with teams and network users on troubleshooting solutions where necessary.
  • Setup and operations of virtualization layer, including Vmware, VMs etc.
  • Setup and operations of hardware, including HSM, servers, clusters and storage
  • Establish and document IT Stack best practices.
  • Perform system checks and monitor network performance, making recommendations for improvements when/where needed.
  • Maintain hardware components and replace as necessary, while creating, configuring and or assist with testing both networking and system software.
  • Manage network access, capacity planning, resource utilization and more, while creating and maintaining related documentation.
  • Implement upgrades such as security configurations, hot fixes, patches and service packs.
  • Plan and execute changes, including coordination, planning and notification about changes
  • Market trends (e.g. SaaS, Cloud, Virtualization, Digitalization)
