Description:

Security Clearance:
Must be a US Citizen eligible for a DoD Secret Clearance.
Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense (DoD) active security clearance may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving software, hardware, and network issues of end users or that occur within the IT infrastructure. Respond to/resolve assigned IT incidents, work orders, and tasks related to providing new or maintaining existing IT services. Install/troubleshoot network equipment. Ability process dig permits, perform location work for cabling projects, and support cabling projects. Some work may require minor physical labor to perform installations and maintenance of equipment. Requires the ability to work with users of various technical abilities to resolve issues.

    Physical Requirements:
    Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required. Possible lifting up to 50 lbs.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in LAN technical support and cable plant maintenance.
  • Proficiency in networking protocols, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of cable plant infrastructure and cable types.
  • Ability to physically maneuver networking equipment and do the required physical work (lifting and climbing) to install and maintain equipment.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA are a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Requires strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work with users of various technical abilities to resolve issues.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with government security and compliance standards is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of White Sands Test Facility and local policies, procedures, and IT infrastructure is a plus

Responsibilities:

LAN Technical Support:

  • Monitor and maintain the local area network (LAN) infrastructure.
  • Configure, install, and maintain network equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Assist in network security management, including firewall and intrusion detection systems.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to plan and implement network upgrades and expansions.

Cable Plant Technical Support:

  • Inspect, test, and maintain the cable plant infrastructure, including cabling, connectors, and terminations.
  • Diagnose and repair cable plant issues to ensure reliable data transmission.
  • Implement cable management best practices to maintain an organized and efficient infrastructure.
  • Assist in the installation and removal of cables as needed for facility changes.

Technical Troubleshooting:

  • Respond to IT support requests originated in the ticket system for the facility promptly and professionally.
  • Identify and resolve hardware and software issues on end-user devices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity problems, both wired and wireless.
  • Provide on-site and remote support to ensure continuous operations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of all LAN and cable plant configurations and changes.
  • Prepare reports on network performance, cable plant status, and IT support activities.
  • Document IT policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Collaborate with other IT team members to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Train end-users in best practices for network usage and cable management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and certifications related to LAN and cable plant technology.
  • Ability to receive and implement training on related equipment and or tasks, processes, and procedures as needed in order to ensure service delivery for the center.
  • Other duties as assigned.
