Responsibilities:

THE ROLE YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:

The Senior Regional System Administrators reports to the Supervisor of the Regional System Administration department. All principal duties and job responsibilities are expected to be performed with little oversight or direction. Additionally, the Senior role would assist in the education and oversight of the Intermediate and Associate System Administrators. This position is responsible for the execution of research, planning, deployment, continued support, and decommission of mission-critical systems. System Administrators are responsible for both physical and virtual server builds, maintenance, resource projections, system decommissions, systems management alerting, and on-call support. This position requires active collaboration with other cross-functional teams to provide a stable, performing, and highly scalable server infrastructure, including technologies such as physical and virtual servers, LAN/WAN networks, and virtualization. Keeps environment secure by designing and/or implementing security remediations (OS security updates and OS configuration hardening) based on approved security standards or AIT policies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Customer Service/Collaboration – Displays courtesy and sensitivity to clients, able to manage difficult or emotional customer situations. Responds promptly to customer needs or requests for service and assistance. Exhibits tact and consideration when speaking or working with clients, peers, or management. Demonstrates understanding and value of teamwork and works cooperatively in team settings or group situations.   • Communications – Acts as a liaison between local and corporate teams to communicate system administration activities. Actively communicates relevant information to supervisor and other team members in a timely manner, taking necessary precautions to guard confidential information and using approved methods of communications.
  • Dependability & Flexibility – Adapts to changes in the work environment. Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. Responsible for own actions and committed to doing the best job possible. Keeps commitments and works extensively when necessary to reach goals or critical commitments. Able to work independently of direct supervision. Displays willingness to make sound decisions, including the appropriate people in the decision-making process where necessary.
  • Incident Management/Problem Management – Solve service delivery and performance problems as it relates to servers, virtual infrastructure, or Information Technology infrastructure. Maintains accurate information and data regarding end-user issues within the Service Desk tracking system in accordance with policy. Updates tickets/incidents following AIT policies. Prevents or identifies the root cause of server-related issues and implements solutions.
  • Operating System Support – Maintains manufacturer-supported Operating System levels on all servers. Keeps Operating System lifecycle current and proactively plans for system upgrades to maintain compliance to AIT standards. Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve operating system issues. Configure, optimize, and monitor operating systems in accordance with AIT standards. Develop OS configuration standards, based on best practices and AIT security policies. Develop and maintain Operating Systems templates across all supported data centers.
  • Virtual Environment Administration – Build virtual servers, and manage basic to advanced virtual server configurations, such as adding CPU, RAM, and expanding disk volume. Provide simple management functions of virtual infrastructure, escalate issues when necessary. Assist the Virtual Infrastructure team with the installation, configuration and decommission of the virtual infrastructure.
  • Server Infrastructure Hardware – Conducting server builds, installing equipment in data center, racks, cabling, etc. Maintains system BIOS, firmware, and hardware-level drivers to manufacture recommended levels. Manage the lifecycle of server hardware. Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve system hardware issues.
  • Server Restore and Recovery – Assist in the restore and recovery of servers. Communicates progress and provides resolutions regarding server recovery.
  • Storage Infrastructure – Responsible for all direct attached server storage in the environment, fault management and other functions. Work with Corporate Storage team to allocate space to systems, drive replacements and other basic functions.
  • Maintenance Downtime – Communicates and coordinates downtime processes or activities with any interested or potentially affected parties. Effectively prepares for downtime events, provides coordination for execution, and delivers post-assessment and communication. Works with corporate teams to complete downtime activities as needed.
  • Time Management – Works additional hours to meet project deadlines without being asked to do so. Able to prioritize multiple projects and issues and meet deadlines. Completes tasks in a proactive and timely manner. Responds promptly to assignments as requested and keeps commitments to deadlines. Able to achieve established goals and objectives. Enters all time in Project Online time accounting system and submits for approval in a timely manner.
  • Disaster Recovery – Works with other technical teams and coordinates resources in the support of scheduled Disaster Recovery tests for designated mission-critical systems. Plan and design processes for the continuation of job duties during a disaster event to support all standard operations of server management, decommission and security.
  • Process and Documentation – In accordance with AIT Security and Operation standards and policies, develop processes and/or documentation to be used as standard procedure for day-to-day activities, projects, or initiatives.
  • Data Center Infrastructure – Facilitate understanding and simple management of HVAC, UPS, PDU, Humidity/Temp controls and secure access in facility data centers. Work with local facilities leadership and corporate teams to implement and maintain corporate standards at all data centers.
