Description:
An exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced Store Manager role to join our Japan Mart Sylvia Park branch in Auckland. We are looking for an individual with unparalleled leadership, team engagement and customer skills to deliver sales growth and running of the store.
Established in 1987, Japan Mart is New Zealand’s largest retailer of Japanese food, beverage (including liquor), general household goods and daily necessities, and has been introducing Japanese culture to New Zealanders for over 30 years.
This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the store, including training shop assistants, to ensure flawless customer experience at all times. This is a full-time role reporting directly to the National Retail Manager and must be flexible to meet the needs of the business and fully available through the Christmas & New Year period, and at least one weekend day a week.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of duties associated with the day-to-day operations of the store, including but not limited to;
- Supervising and guiding staff to achieve maximum financial performance
- Planning and preparing work schedules and assigning staff to specific duties
- Maintaining statistical and financial records, analysing sales and revenue reports, and making forecasts
- Ensuring that customers receive prompt service and quality goods and services
- Dealing with inquiries and complaints about goods and services from customers to maintain the store’s reputation
- Taking inventory of goods for sale and ordering new stock
- Ensuring that goods and services are correctly priced and displayed
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
- Planning and overseeing in-store promotional events and display
- Liaising with head office
- Keeping up-to-date market trends to determine the need for improvements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 1 year of work experience in sales and/or purchasing roles.
- Leadership skills and food product sales experience.
- Knowledge of retail management best practices
- Basic knowledge of Japanese food and sake liquor is advantageous as most of the products are sourced from Japan and the role is required to explain details of the product to the customer, but not essential.
- Fluency in Japanese - the successful candidate must be proficient in Japanese because the role involves reading and understanding Japanese packaging.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
- Basic computer skills are required. Experience in using ERP (e.g., NetSuite) in sales and logistics operations is a big advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail
If you are interested in becoming a part of our team, please provide us with your CV and a cover letter to introduce yourself. Please also don’t forget to indicate your visa type and its expiry date in your CV.
Only candidates with the appropriate credentials will be contacted
