Position Description
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Administrator I

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Requires the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University and a minimum of four (4) years of professional-level experience working with currently or formerly incarcerated individuals. A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Experience should include leading or supervising other professional staff.
LICENSES – Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

  • Must be able to work occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet deadlines. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Prior experience advocating for the needs of Project Rebound students.
  • Experience collaborating with statewide entities supporting educational attainment for formerly incarcerated individuals.
  • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK – involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities:

Program Oversight and Leadership

  • Responsible for the direction and management of the Project Rebound program while representing the University and promoting a positive public image.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with campus constituents, local community colleges, correctional facilities, and other key stakeholders and partners in the external community.
  • Connect matriculated students with relevant campus and community resources.
  • Provide individualized pre-enrollment services (e.g., academic assessment, admissions advising, financial aid, and counseling) to prospective Rebound students to help them prepare to apply for admission to the CSU.
  • Selectively produce letters of support for Project Rebound students and alumni to the Board of Parole, prospective employers, and academic programs.
  • Communicate with parole and probation officials on behalf of current and prospective Rebound students.
  • Create, maintain, and advise an active student club and alumni network.
  • Maintain engaged and active on-campus and off-campus support teams.
  • Manage departmental assessment efforts.
  • Administrative functions including responding to all letters and inquiries, developing and maintaining strong records and files, writing internal and external reports, tracking applications, admissions, retention, graduation, job placement, and other relevant data, assisting in writing grants to secure external funding, etc.
  • Maintain the program’s website and social media presence.

Supervision/Management of Staff

  • Directly supervise staff and student assistants through selecting, training, evaluating, and disciplining as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work of staff and student assistants while providing leadership and encouragement of staff growth, cross-curricular experiences, and increased responsibilities.
  • Determine short and long-term staffing requirements. Complete hire authorization forms, draft interview questions, assemble hiring committees, and make final recommendations to the AVP for Student Affairs & Student Services for the hiring of professional staff.
  • Act sensitively to the needs of the professional staff and student assistants. Counsel and mentor employees. Evaluate work-life balance, work assignment parity, and possible reassignment as needed.

Strategic Planning and Budget Management

  • Develop, recommend, and implement systems and processes for enhanced student engagement and monitoring of academic progress.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and practices in the field, solicit feedback to ensure quality service and efficiency or identify areas for improvement.
  • Create opportunities for Project Rebound students to build a sense of community within the program, campus, and other Project Rebound programs across the state.
  • Create and design informational literature and videos that represents the program’s mission and values.
  • Develop and oversee outreach and programming.
  • Manage the program’s financial and operational resources.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility with the department and division’s equipment, property, and funds.
  • Authorize expenditures within the parameters of budget authorization.
  • Write expenditure and program reports on a quarterly, annual, and ad hoc basis.
