The Gentilly-1 Waste Facility (G1WF), herein referenced to as the Facility, is operated according to a decommissioning licence and associated Licence Condition Handbook (LCH). The G1WF is currently in a Storage with Surveillance (SWS) phase and transitioning to full decommissioning. The G1WF is located in Bécancour, Québec, on the Hydro-Québec Gentilly site.The Job Supervisor is accountable to the Gentilly-1 Waste Facility Manager, for ensuring that facilities, resources, and support groups are operated and maintained in a manner that ensures compliance to Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL) procedures and regulatory guidelines.
The Job Supervisor will reinforce management’s expectations for safe work practices, consequences for not following safe work practices, and address performance and time management issues at the job sites. The Job Supervisor shall also ensure all paperwork, records and procedures are completed and followed, and that all safety rules are adhered to. The Job Supervisor shall provide planning, oversight and support for routine and non-routine work activities to ensure the structures and operating systems compromising the Facility are maintained. Work could involve housekeeping, construction, partial dismantling, stripping walls/ceilings, stripping process equipment, and demolition work up to and including entire structures. The Job Supervisor, will also be performing Storage with Surveillance rounds, minor maintenance, and other task related to the Facility housekeeping. This role will require some technical skills to revise and develop procedures to support the operation, gather and enter data from various activities (including inspections, testing monitoring, and waste tracking) in appropriate software.
The Job Supervisor may be requested to train and fulfill the role of G-1 Facility Supervisor to cover scheduled and unscheduled leave.

What will you be doing !

  • Review and Comment (R&C) on documents related to the G-1 Decommissioning Project;
  • As Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergency Steward of various facilities, the Supervisor must lead facility response toemergencies, both internal and external;
  • Respond to calls during non-business hours and resolve emergency calls;
  • Work with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related tothe decommissioning program;
  • Maintain, update, and ensure the preventative maintenance program and completing all maintenance, Storage-withSurveillance (SWS) and compliance activities on time;
  • Supervise or conduct contractor oversight of teams (up to 20 staff);
  • Lead demolition activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site;
  • Supervise operation of heavy demolition equipment;
  • Supervise site reduction and packaging of radioactive/and non-radioactive demolition waste in accordance with WasteManagement Plans (WMP’s), track waste shipment record;
  • Own and manage job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices, and traffic and pedestrian control;
  • Lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensure pre-jobs/post-jobs are completed;
  • Verifying contractor’s timesheets, and overtime;
  • Provide coaching as necessary;
  • Ensure adherence to field work plans and permits including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement;
  • Work with technical staff to resolve problems/issues to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution.
  • Collect records generated from various site activities and enter in the appropriate CNL tracking system.
  • Update and create procedures and forms to support the site operations.
  • Support the Facility Supervisor and the Facility Manager in various duties assigned like engaging and scheduling acontractor to perform work in the facility to perform Storage with Surveillance activities.

What we are looking for :

  • Someone who has the ability to:
  • Interact effectively with various areas of responsibility including trades groups, shops, radiation protection, managers,supervisors, project managers, operators, etc.
  • Interact effectively with all groups who provide support to the Facility;
  • Communicate effectively with internal groups at all levels, on a daily basis both on project and non-project relatedactivities. E-mail, telephone, verbal, and electronic memos or letters are a few of the media used to communicateinternally;
  • Communicate effectively with external customers, contractors and suppliers. Correspondence through E-mail,telephone, memos and letters are some of the media used to communicate to external customers;
  • Communicate clearly via written and verbal correspondence in both French and English language (bilingual). This isparticularly important when preparing event/incident reports, operational logs, contracts, requisitions, annual reports,and detailed briefings.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a nuclear environment or equivalent;
  • Well-developed leadership and communication skills including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented workenvironment in a unionized environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and tolead others in such conditions;
  • Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities;
  • Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements and contamination control;
  • Be capable of obtaining Radiation Protection Group 3 certification within three (3) months;
  • A working knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures and organization;
  • Familiarity with the Planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management System;
  • Effective bilingual (French/English) writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs(Radiological Work Plan) and work plans;
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification sheets and detailed instructions;
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software;
  • Familiarity with CNL’s compliance programs;
  • Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies;
  • Capable of producing plans and schedules;
  • Understanding of Canada Labour Code Part II;
  • Working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
  • Knowledge of Canada Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations and how they apply to decommissioning activities isan asset;
  • Knowledge of the applicable codes associated with decommissioning a nuclear site and buildings and how to apply themwhen performing decommissioning activities is required is an asset;
  • Ability to be a certified Asbestos Abatement Supervisor.
  • Education:
  • High School graduation with advanced level in Math, Science, or equivalent
  • Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
