About the Role:
Jr. Design Engineers support construction teams with installation planning, drawing reviews, drafting, and coordination of electrical systems for multiple complex infrastructure projects under the direction of a Design Manager. Jr. Design Engineers participate actively and maintain ongoing relations with project coordinators, clients, drafters, engineers and the design manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in Electrical Engineering
  • BSC in Engineering
  • An Engineer in Training (EIT) with the EGBC
  • 1+ year of experience drafting for a construction firm or consulting firm

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proficient with Blue beam Revu & Revit
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Proficient with using CSA, CEC, ESA, and BCBC Standards
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • Ability to anticipate and adjust for challenges
  • Good analytical thinking skills

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant legal policies and procedure and regulatory bodies

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare value engineering proposals - when value engineering opportunities arise, will need to research the topic and prepare a proposal for stakeholder review
  • RFI’s - assist in writing, submitting, tracking, and distributing responses
  • Ensure compliance with CSA, CEC, ESA, BCBC and all other applicable electrical standards during design processes
  • Meetings - activity participate or lead regularly-scheduled meetings with clients, other contractors, and consultants. Keep detailed notes when participating in meetings so ensure that project team members have the same understanding
  • Compliance reviews - review drawings from outside consultants to check to code and SoR compliance on design assist and EPC projects
  • Shop drawing reviews - review vender drawing packages to correct errors and to suggest optimizations, examples: distribution equipment, fire alarm, light fixtures
  • Time management - will work on more than one project at a time, potentially with conflicting priorities; need to communicate and plan to ensure that expectations are met
  • Administrative tasks - complete various weekly tasks to support the engineering & design process and functionality of design processes, including tracking completion and task lists
  • Regular and predictable attendance
