JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS
Open call for Junior and Mid-Level Legal Professionals
1. Background
DAI is implementing Component 1, Support to the Independent National Electoral Commission, of the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria Programme (EU SDGN) PHASE II project in Nigeria. The aim of the project is to foster a functioning pluralistic, inclusive, participatory, and representative democracy in Nigeria.
Support to electoral reform is a big element of the work done under EU SDGN II and further effort is needed in order to ensure a coordinated approach to this end.
2. Scope of the Specific Assignment
In this light, the project is looking at the possibility of engaging a junior legal expert to assist electoral reform activities.
Expected activities include (subject to change):
Conduct legal research Support the drafting of recommendations on any other issue cognate to the electoral legal framework Assists the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions Of Nigeria in the finalization of the SIEC model law Assist the establishment and operationalization of ICEL and once fully operational lead the ICEL secretariat Assist EUSDGN partners in their efforts to consult electoral stakeholders on amendments needed in the electoral legal framework
3. Expertise Required
We are looking for resourceful, dynamic, and proactive individual with good interpersonal and communication skills and the following desired qualifications:
University Degree in Law At least 5 years of relevant professional experience relevant to the assignment Proven experience with legal research and drafting, specialization in constitutional and electoral law an asset. Prior experience supporting donor-funded, especially EU-funded, governance projects is an asset
The Expert must also demonstrate the following competencies:
Excellent communication skills – oral and written. Effective project management, administrative, organisation and time management skills Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite of software. Ability to work under tight deadlines Ability to work effectively as a team player in a dynamic environment. Ability to work effectively at all levels in an organisation. Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. Superior attitude - flexible and willing to undertake a wide variety of non-routine tasks.
4. Location
The consultant will be provided with office space at the Project Office in Abuja, Nigeria . Limited travel within Nigeria may be required for the implementation of the duties.
