We are recruiting a Junior Battery Algorithms Engineer to be a part of our world-class Battery and Powertrain Team. Here you will directly contribute towards developing the VX4, our fully electric, sustainable eVTOL aircraft.
Working underneath our Modelling Team Lead and Deputy Head of Powertrain, we’ll help you build the skills and knowledge to assist in developing state estimators for the Battery Management System (BMS) and other diagnostic tools. This role involves collaborating closely with the BMS team and contributing to the development of both cell and system models.
Ideal candidates will be recent graduates or possess a maximum of two years of post-educational experience
WHAT WOULD WE LIKE YOU TO BRING?
The below represents the essential skills, expertise and knowledge we are looking for:
- Masters or PhD level Educational background
- A background in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace, Systems, or Computer Engineering or related engineering field
- Good theoretical understanding of battery design development, electrochemistry and Lithium-ion technology
- Familiarity with control theory and developing state algorithms for the BMS, including state of charge (SoC)
- Evidence of working in MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape
- Knowledge of C++ programming
- Good understanding of ageing mechanisms of Lithium-ion cells
- Ability to work through problems from start to finish (this would include starting with first-principles calculations and advancing to detailed simulation or test)
- Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose designs of experiments, and execute independently
