YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Stantec’s Transportation Team provides planning, design and construction administration services for roadway, highway, transit/rail, bridge and related transportation infrastructure. We are currently seeking a self-motivated Junior Engineer to work in Ottawa, ON to provide technical support to senior engineers and project managers. The primary scope of this role is to assist in the development of high quality bridge, culverts and structural designs. The Junior Engineer must have a sound knowledge of engineering principles and codes, and experience in the design of bridge elements. This person must also have the ability to use computer software for bridge analysis and design, will be responsible for assisting with design and drawings tasks, performing structural analysis and design of a variety of bridge and culvert structure types.
The Bridge team is involved in the pursuit and delivery of bridge, structure rehabilitation and design projects, culvert projects and other structural infrastructure projects in the National Capital Area and throughout Eastern Canada, with the ability to support other Stantec offices throughout Canada and the US. In this role you will get to use your knowledge and understanding of bridge engineering and construction methods to manage and successfully deliver multidisciplinary bridge inspection, analysis, rehabilitation, and design projects for both private and public sector clients, from planning through to detailed design stages and into construction.

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is an asset.
  • Eligible for registration as an engineer or candidate to the engineering profession with the Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience required.
  • Ability to design bridges and bridge components.
  • Ability to perform structural analysis and design. Ability to run analysis and design software such as CSi Bridge, Sofistik, Larsa or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of codes such as CSA-S6, MTO, AASHTO, ACI, ASCE, etc.
  • Excellent technical report writing experience and skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Able to travel and work in Eastern Ontario

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Bridge or Structural Engineering.
  • Recent experience in successfully delivering projects for the City of Ottawa, Public Services and Procurement Canada, National Capital Commission, and the MTO, and having an in-depth understanding of their staff, policies, and procedures.
  • Fully bilingual in English and French.
  • Industry-recognized Project Management certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis and design of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and steel bridge structures.
  • Perform structural analysis of bridges, culverts and other structural elements.
  • Prepare technical calculations and structural drawings.
  • Develop calculations and design through all design phases, from preliminary to detailed design.
  • Develop bills of quantities for engineering estimates.
  • Calculate input data for structural analysis software, such as section properties.
  • Assist in the preparation of drawings and designs in accordance with company standards, and follow quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering studies, reports, memos and documents.
  • Assist with bridge\culvert inspections as required.
