Description:
We are seeking a Junior Clinical Fellow to work within Acute Medicine mainly based at our Chorley and South Ribble General Hospital site.
As outlined in the enclosed timetable, the Junior Clinical Fellow will be involved directly with day to day functioning of Acute Medicine, mainly in Medical Assessment Unit and medical short stay unit. This will include Acute Ward Rounds supporting the Consultants. There will be opportunities to perform invasive procedure like lumbar puncture, ascitic paracentesis (diagnostic and therapeutic) and pleural aspiration.
The post holder would be expected to be flexible and may be required to support post-take ward round with consultant in ED or manage workload in MAU when busy.

Responsibilities:
For GIM specialties
In patient management of patients admitted under the specialty team
Assessing patients, organising investigations, interpreting and acting on results
Attending, and contributing to wards rounds
Performing relevant practical procedures where competent
Completing appropriate paperwork for patients on discharge and liaising with other specialist teams and GPs regarding relevant follow up
For Acute Medicine
Assessing patients referred by GPs or ED for admission to the acute medical unit, making comprehensive assessments, ordering appropriate investigations, interpreting results and formulating initial management plans for patients under supervision by the senior medical staff
Attending and contributing to ward rounds on the short stay unit
Performing relevant practical procedures where competent
Completing appropriate paperwork for patients on discharge and liaising with other specialist teams and GPs regarding relevant follow up.
