Description:

We are seeking a Junior Clinical Fellow. This post would be a participant on a 1 in 10 junior rota, and would be suitable for a person wishing to increase their experience with the Orthopaedic department.
The post holder will be required to work across Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital. The post is initially for 12 months’ with a possible 6 months’ extension month post that is available to commence asap, but a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicant.
This post is not formally approved for training but provides excellent opportunities for progression.
This post will provide both elective and trauma experience in a major trauma centre and would be suitable for a person wishing to obtain CT / ST1/2 level experience, or ST3. This post would be suitable for a pre ST3 post experience.
You will work with a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic elective trauma surgeon.
Organise and perform the day-to-day pre and post-operative care of inpatients advised and guided by the Registrars and Consultants in the department. You will be expected to be on the ward during the normal working day except for natural breaks and when clinical duties elsewhere so demand.
Prepare for and attend the Registrar and Consultant ward rounds and carryout duties thus allocated.
Examine and clerk all patients admitted to the wards. Maintain regular and comprehensive progress notes in the case records of patients.
Attend outpatient clinics under supervision of the Consultant, as required.
Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.
As a teaching hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are committed to developing our teaching and academic activities and can facilitate meeting any training needs for these roles. You will be expected to take on the role of educational supervisor for doctors in training attached to the department.
We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.
In 2013 we became the regional vascular centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. Elective and emergency vascular surgery is transferring to the vascular centre from University Hospitals Morecambe Bay, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals on a phased basis, with all surgery for the area being undertaken at the centre by 2016.
