Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Jr. Engineer is a key role within the Packaging Development group that serves as the lead, in collaboration with Packaging Operations, for the development of new packaging configurations as well as managing and enhancing current product lines.
Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to -
- Perform Development Review and Assessment for Second Source Initiatives.
- Assess unit fit and appropriate primary components for efficient packaging.
- Confirm technical documents (die lines, drawings, and material specifications) align with commercial requirements.
- Ensure packaging ability to meet customer requirements (OCR, Automation, etc.) for all new product launches.
- Compile and configure dimensions and weights for finished goods (unit to pallet level).
- Obtain quotes and work with vendors for ship test and CR studies.
- Evaluate and confirm stability packaging jobs to ensure commercialization prior to submitting for packaging/long term stability testing.
- Evaluate cost savings for current commercial SKU’s.
- Engage with Manufacturing R&D teams to align on commercial packaging requirements like cotton, desiccant or printed primary component copy limitations.
- Determine best location for packaging based on current line capacity and job allocations.
- Continuously improve/optimize the current processing and packaging of commercial products.
- Collaborate across multiple packaging facilities, as well as with the customer, to guarantee packaging requirements needed for launch can be met.
- Research and align with the procurement team on recyclable packaging material options.
- Perform shipper sizing for new projects and new folding carton size changes.
- Evaluate current componentry options and seek the expansion of available options for new projects.
- Perform quarterly checks on in-house test material for usability/destruction.
- Manage critical timelines ensuring project goals are met and the Bill of Material is finalized for change control assessment.
- Coordinate packaging line trials and material assessments with the Packaging Operations team.
- Complete vendor packaging material information documents and confirm customer specifications match our internal documentation and Bill of Material.
- Additional tasks as required by department Director.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years packaging operations/process development experience in the packaging of powders, capsules, and tablets. Sufficient education may serve in lieu of experience.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, organize, and problem solve.
- Extremely detail oriented with strong communication skills.
- Project Management and Customer Facing experience preferred.
- Computer Skills: Microsoft office applications (Excel, Power Point, Word), Smartsheet, and Adobe.
