Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY:
BluMetric (BLM) is currently seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and reliable full time Junior Environmental Scientist or engineer in training for our Ottawa location. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and technical skills, knowledge of regulations, and writing abilities. They will be expected to perform a number of tasks that may include the execution and management of environmental site assessments, site characterization, proposal and technical report preparation, data analysis and management using MS Excel and Access, in addition to supervising the associated field activities.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND SKILLS:
- Sc. in Earth Sciences/Environmental Sciences or a B.A.Sc in civil or environmental engineering and be eligible to become a P.Geo. or P.Eng.
- Experience in environmental site assessments (Phase I, II) and the characterization of soils, surface water and groundwater.
- Knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental guidelines and regulations.
- Experience should be 1 to 4 years of relevant experience in order to support engineering and environmental geosciences projects for industrial, private, and government clients, preferably consulting.
- Knowledge of geology, physical and chemical hydrogeology including contaminated site investigations, delineation and remediation.
- Experience should include surface water and groundwater monitoring and sampling procedures, borehole drilling and monitoring well installation, logging of field samples, and the preparation of borehole logs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The ability to write professional technical reports is paramount.
- Ability to work independently both in the office and in the field.
- Positive attitude, teamwork and ability to problem-solve is essential.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel broadly with overnight trips being common, and flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required.
- Ability to travel across the north if required.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to work in both English and French would be an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary project team in both the field and office setting to meet project objectives.
- Implementation, and execution of field programs including but not limited to site assessments, site characterization, site monitoring, building materials assessment, air quality assessment, spill response and management, soil, surface water and groundwater monitoring.
- Water treatment, abatement oversight and remediation oversight.
- Technical report writing.
- Data management and interpretation.
