Description:

Millennium EMS Solutions Ltd. (MEMS) is committed to the implementation and maintenance of a vigorous Health, Safety & Environment Program (HSE Program). The Junior HSE Advisor is responsible for the day-to-day operational aspects of MEMS’ safety programs. The strategic components of the Junior HSE Advisor position include: tactical planning, implementing safety objectives that integrate into MEMS business plans, employee engagement activities in safety and the overall development of a safety conscious culture. The day-to -day activities include managing and coordinating the safety management system (SMS) by liaising with various departments, vendors, and suppliers. This is position consists of a split between time spent in the field and the office, there will be a requirement to spend time both in MEMS offices and MEMS work sites.

  • Exceptional and persuasive oral and written communication skills as well as experience presenting to large audiences is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to document processes, flow charts, and procedures.
  • Must have the strong desire and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including excellent follow-through skills
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience in Enform Safety Auditing an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player.

Responsibilities:

  • Coaching and guiding employees on MEMS HSE management system, health and safety programs and processes and OHS legislation.
  • Collaborating with MEMS employees to anticipate, identify, evaluate, and determine practical solutions to health and safety risks and issues.
  • Assisting with the development and review of HSE documents such as Project Mobilization Checklists, Pre-Job Safety Meetings and Job Task Hazard Assessments.
  • Participating in MEMS’ JHWSC.
  • Assisting with the development of site-specific safety plans, project specific work, and Emergency Response Plans.
  • Assisting in HSE audits such as COR to ensure they are conducted per requirements.
  • Assisting in the preparation of documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, summarizing data, and identifying trends.
  • Preparation of MEMS monthly safety statistics and key performance indicators, including external statistic reporting.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
  • Executing health and safety projects/initiatives, as required.
  • Collaborate with the HSE team to continually improve MEMS SMS specific to procedures, safety forms, standards, training systems, and communications. Recommend and participate in developing safety objectives, targets, and associated action plans. This includes audits and maintain compliance with our COR requirements.
  • Preparation of regular safety meeting content including monthly corporate-wide townhall meetings.
  • Preparation of MEMS safety communications.
  • Assess safety requirements for contractors working on MEMS projects.
  • Tracking of all MEMS contractors
  • Conduct inspections and audits, identify hazards and health and safety concerns, to ensure that established controls and procedures are being used correctly, document any items or areas of concern, and develop action plans for timely resolution of issues and problems, and follow-up as needed.
  • Ensure that emergency procedures are clear and prominently posted for employees and tenants. Provide guidance on emergency evacuation procedures, conduct evacuation drills, and ensure that standards and procedures comply with building and fire regulations.
  • Continuous monitoring and updating of external safety databases such as ISN and Complyworks.
  • Liaise with the equipment centre with respect to safety equipment and ensuring that MEMS personnel are trained and knowledgeable on working with equipment.
  • Assist with project specific work as required.
  • Availability outside of office hours to take calls to the MEMS safety phone (in conjunction with others).
  • Other duties as required.
