JOB ADVERT SUMMARY

The purpose of the Junior Project Engineer will be to support experienced engineers in various engineering tasks and projects within the organisation and contribute to the development of innovative projects, assisting in project planning, design, and execution, and ensuring compliance with technical requirements and standards, ultimately assisting in the successful completion of engineering projects while continuously developing their skills and expertise in the field.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably in mechanical, or industrial engineering, or related field)
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in project management within the construction industry.
  • Professional Engineering certification or registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations in the construction and engineering sectors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effectively liaising with diverse stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Ability to follow and implement procedures effectively.
  • Adherence to safety protocols to mitigate potential dangers in construction environments.
  • Proficiency in project management software, CAD software, and other relevant tools is essential.
  • Understanding of construction processes, project management methodologies, and engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing facility design, electricity, water supply systems, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Meticulous attention to detail is required for ensuring accuracy in project documentation, adherence to specifications, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing project requirements, timelines, and priorities are essential for effectively managing project uncertainties and complexities.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet project deadlines.
  • Team player with leadership potential and a proactive approach to project challenges.

Responsibilities:

Support project development and implementation by conducting technical studies, assisting in project design and execution.

  • Project Planning: Develop project plans, including scope, schedule, and budget, in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with administrative and legislative requirements for projects, inclusive of environmental assessments.
  • Resource Management: Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
  • Technical oversight: Provide technical expertise and guidance on poultry facility design, equipment selection, and construction methods.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and delays.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor project progress, identify deviations from the plan, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, drawings, permits, and change orders.
  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication among project team members, stakeholders, and management to ensure alignment, clarity and a common understanding.
  • Budget Control: Monitor project expenses and track against budgetary constraints to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Commissioning and Handover: Oversee commissioning activities and ensure a smooth transition to operations upon project completion.
