Description:

Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) is part of the newly established CIDS (Center for
Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences). It is one of the permanently established national centers for artificial
intelligence, financed by the federal government and the Free State of Saxony and located at TUD und

we will establish up to two new
Junior Research Group Leaders (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated salary group up to E 15 TV-L)
working on AI methods. Applications are invited for a junior research group that shall start in 2024
with a duration of 12 to 36 months. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research
Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). An extension after a positive evaluation
for up to 36 months is possible. A junior research group consists of a junior research group leader
and research assistants. Depending on the duration of the group and the quality of the research
proposal, up to two additional positions for research assistants will be funded by ScaDS.AI. Research
assistants (PhD or postdoc level) are paid at the TV-L level 13.
In the medium term, ScaDS.AI Dresden will bring together more than 200 staff members at TUD
closely collaborating with other departments advancing research in the field of digitization. Its
members are active in various research areas working on the fundamentals and applications of data
science and artificial intelligence. In addition, service-oriented solutions are developed and there is
close cooperation with a large number of partner organizations from science and industry. The center
offers an excellent working environment with access to state-of-the-art technologies and an
outstanding high-performance computing infrastructure. To promote research excellence in the field
of AI and data science, ScaDS.AI supports early career research group leaders in this field that
complement and extend our current research areas.

Responsibilities:

The junior research group leader (principal investigator) is responsible for the establishment and

management of the junior research group with the following tasks:

  • Methodological basic research which strengthens and complements the research focus of

ScaDS.AI in the field of artificial intelligence (e.g. in machine learning, computer vision, language

models, robotics and explainability).

  • Independent and internationally visible research on Data Science and AI methods with

publication of research results at TOP conferences and in journals of the AI and Data Science

communities, respectively

  • Scientific support for the development of international excellence
  • Exchange of competencies and research results with national AI centers and interdisciplinary

cooperation with non-university research partners.
Requirements: university degree and an additional PhD degree. Outstanding post-doctoral
researchers with a proven research track record in data science and AI including current junior
professors or group leaders. ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig is characterized by the interdisciplinary
collaboration of international scientists. We therefore particularly invite applicants with an

of ScaDS.AI (Dresden/Leipzig). This involves the research area leads and additionally one PI from each
