Summary of Role & Key Responsibilities
Summary of Role
The Anthesis’ Sustainable Chemistry practice has a strong reputation both in industry and amongst regulators, often working in the mediation space, aiming to shape regulation/regulatory changes in a way that meets the regulator’s ambitions but are simultaneously achievable for industry. To meet this growing need, Anthesis needs additional support for its growing policy assessment activities. Although primarily focussed on the above future policy activities, the role calls for engagement with existing EU REACH compliance demands and those of related regulations globally. The role will also include working with other Anthesis teams in order to help our clients reach their sustainability goals, particularly where they relate to chemical policy and management objectives.
Anthesis is looking to recruit a candidate to be part of our expansion of the Sustainable Chemistry offering to meet the increasing policy development activities Europe. Within our team of experts, you will be expected to work closely with clients including trade associations, to understand their (future) needs and what support Anthesis can provide. Day-to-day activities are highly variable, often requiring very quick turnarounds; and range from monitoring and analysing emerging regulatory changes and their implications for our clients, developing innovative technical tools and methodologies in response to those changes; as well as helping companies develop their own chemicals policy to be ready for future regulatory needs. Clients include trade associations in which case the impact is sector-wide, and responses must be coordinated amongst members/working groups as well as thought-leading clients who seek to go beyond regulations with their sustainability agenda. Good project management and communication skills are essential, ambition to learn new things and high quality of work products are a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Horizon-scanning and supporting clients in developing compliance strategies for future changes to EU chemicals and product regulations.
  • Investigating and benchmarking companies and brands with regards their sustainability or chemicals policy, or how they address specific topics and agendas.
  • Data gathering and analysis, literature search on chemical hazard and other types of desk research.
  • Developing slide decks and other information packages for internal and external communication about new regulations and their implications specifically relevant for the target audience.
  • Providing ad-hoc chemistry support to other expert teams in Anthesis.
  • Project management.
  • Identify opportunities for Anthesis to further support clients, general business development activities.
  • Expand the client portfolio with relevant policy development, regulatory and sustainability projects.

Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Key Requirements

  • Professional (technical) English is a must and operational German is needed.
  • This role includes continuous learning across multiple disciplines from chemical processes, alternative assessment, LCAs to legal processes, the candidate should thrive to learn new things on a daily basis.
  • Experience of or aspiration for working with technically complex projects. The role involves monitoring multiple agendas, the candidate must understand the connections and relevance across topics, clients, legislations.
  • 2 years’ experience in business-oriented Regulatory Affairs and/or Product Stewardship function in the industrial chemicals sector would be a bonus.
  • Clear communicator, able to ensure accuracy in data records and communicate to non-topic experts.
  • Proven ability to write scientifically sound articles in both English and German with the ability to communicate and resonate with both scientists and non-scientists alike.
  • Knowledge of EU chemicals and product regulations is an added bonus.
  • Well organised, effective time management and self-management of priorities is a must.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks, able to track multiple projects and follow through to completion.
  • Methodical and analytical with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new software and process essential.
  • Experience with commercial agreements, and time and materials project management a bonus.
  • Experience in the consultancy sector an advantage.
