POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Research Project Coordinator to join the Structural & Biophysical Core Facility team. The SBC Facility (http://lab.research.sickkids.ca/sbc-facility/) is a fast-paced and growing state-of-the-art research laboratory housing over 30 analytical instruments and equipment focused on the biochemistry and biophysical characterization of proteins, molecular interactions and other biological molecules. The SBC Facility collaborates with and supports numerous scientists working on projects originating from a wide variety of research backgrounds. The Project Coordinator will be primarily involved in developing and coordinating internal SickKids and external research hospital, academic and industry research projects, leading and performing wet lab experiments, developing new high impact instrument-based techniques and SOP’s, supporting internal and external collaborating scientists who work in the facility as well as maintaining facility instruments and other infrastructure.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED (REQUIREMENTS):
- Bachelor of Science degree plus at least five years of relevant experience or a Master of Science degree plus at least three years of relevant experience or a PhD. Specialties in biochemistry are an asset.
- Strong knowledge and experience with instruments and techniques in relation to structural and biophysical characterization of biological molecules. A list of applicable instruments and technologies can be found at https://lab.research.sickkids.ca/sbc-facility/instruments/.
- Ability to carry out responsibilities with a high degree of independence and integrity while working collaboratively within a team environment.
- Communicate effectively and have strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:
- Develop research project plans and lead the implementation of these plans.
- Perform biophysical characterization experiments as well as a variety of other technical assignments and special projects under the general supervision of the facility manager.
- Be involved in research projects focusing on drug discovery, therapeutics development, enzymology and molecular interaction characterization, large-scale association and particle analysis, protein structural denaturation characterization and X-ray crystallography.
- Assist in maintaining facility instruments, equipment and laboratory organization.
- Train and assist scientists to use facility instruments and provide ongoing experiment and instrument support.
- Contribute to the day-to-day running and general organization of the lab.
- Create and modify scientific reports, SOP¿s and application notes.
- Perform light administrative tasks as needed.
