Has responsibility for the Quality Management, Food Safety and Food Security systems for the Hamilton operation. Also has responsibility for customer and regulatory requirements related to Quality and Food Safety. Work with others on the Hamilton management team in addressing quality, food safety and regulatory concerns and ensuring customer satisfaction. This position interfaces with the QA Manager in investigating and developing responses to complaints, ensuring quality/food safety system compliance, initiating changes required by new or modified products and responding to questions from customers or sales staff.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain the Quality Management System (including HACCP and SQF) in a manner that meets the requirements of customers as well as third party and regulatory audits.
  • Assist QA Manager and others as required with investigation of customer complaints and provide responses to complaints including required corrective actions.
  • Ensure that product formulations and operating conditions are current and available to staff who require them and that they will provide products with the desired characteristics. Work with the QA Manager, Bunge R&D and others in improving current products and addressing problems with products.
  • Work with the Purchasing Coordinator and QA Manager in ensuring that technical aspects of product labels (including ingredient listing, nutrition facts and nutritional claims) are correct and meet regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Promotion of awareness of customer and regulatory requirements by means of ongoing training throughout the plant.
  • Ensure that revision status of documented policies, procedures, and quality records are authorized for use, maintained and controlled, and available at all points of use.
  • Verification and maintenance of the Quality and Food Safety systems.
  • Supervision and enforcement of the documentation related to the successful maintenance of the Quality and Food Safety systems.
  • Verification of Sanitation Forms, CCPs, Pre shipment Verification, Margarine Mixing Record, HACCP Prerequisites, Daily Supervisors Report.
  • Prerequisite and HACCP Plan Review.
  • Maintain and verify calibration records.
  • Conduct third party audits.
  • Conduct Annual Sanitation/Chemical Safety Training and HACCP/ Food Safety /GMP Training.
  • Update various customer websites as to audits and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for rework allocation and management.
  • Responsible for planning and completion of internal audits as required by the Quality Management/Food Safety Systems.
  • Responsible for communicating all food safety and quality concerns to Management.
  • Participate in Job Hazard Analyses, Near-Miss Reporting and other required safety related activities.
  • Be aware of developments in quality, regulatory, analytical and safety requirements as they relate to this position and incorporate these into the Oakville operation as needed.
  • Responsible for quality confirmation of all product ingredients. Ensure that purchases are from approved suppliers and resolve ingredient quality issues.
  • Respond to sales and customer inquiries as needed.
  • Primary back-up for QA Technicians.
  • Primary back-up for the SQF Practitioner.
  • Perform other job functions as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in a science or technical field is preferred
  • Candidates with the equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • The ideal candidate will have 7 or more years of lab experience in oils & fats, food processing, grain milling, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or related industry.
  • Self-Starter with good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently sometimes without supervision
  • Ability to read and interpret various directives that may be provided in written or oral format such as diagram, or schedule format such as safety rules, operating instructions, drawings, production schedules, etc.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to contribute to Root Cause Failure analysis reviews
  • Efficient in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Experience with an ERP, such as SAP is preferred
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed
