Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION

BAE Systems is seeking a Labor Estimator II - Pipefitter to support the San Diego, CA Ship Repair shipyard. This position reports directly to the Proposal Estimating Manager.

In this role, the Labor Estimator II - Pipefitter:

  • Develops detailed estimates for pipefitter work in support of repairs and installations on U.S. Navy, MSC, USCG and all types of commercial vessels;
  • Performs proposal/production estimating duties as described by BAE Systems;
  • Reads and interprets 4-E work specifications and drawings;
  • Works with contract administrators, material estimators, subcontract administrators, and advanced planning personnel in the development of estimates;
  • Works cross functionally with trades and operations teams to ensure bid accuracy;
  • Supports Request for Bid Approval (RBA) meetings with various levels of leadership.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

  • Typically requires a High School Diploma, GED, or the equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years experience in repairs of Navy Vessels and/or marine repair contracts administration;
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and understand 4-E work specifications and drawings;
  • Able to work with contract administrators, material estimators, subcontract administrators, and advanced planning personnel in the development of estimates;
  • A detail-oriented and self-motivated individual is a must;
  • Computer skills to include Intermediate/Advanced level proficiency in MS Word and Excel;
  • Ability to run, read, and interpret reports for labor, material and subcontractor costs.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS

  • Work Item Specification development experience is a plus;
  • U.S. Naval experience as a Hull Technician (HT) or Auxiliaries (A-Gang): Machinist’s Mate (MM) or Engineman (EN) is a plus;
  • Actual shipyard experience as a craft Pipefitter or Outside Machinist familiar with shipboard repair standards and practices is highly desired;
