QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum one year relevant laboratory experience is preferred
  • Post secondary courses in sciences preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential; legible handwriting required
  • Superior multi-tasking skills required
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment as well as independently
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions precisely, prepare and maintain accurate records, and carry out repetitive tasks in a meticulous manner
  • Capable of working in a highly regulated environment
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job required including manual dexterity (must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, lift and carry boxes/cartons of up to 10kg)
  • Must be able to work various shifts including weekends

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Laboratory Assistant - Production to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Laboratory Supervisor for Component Production, you will be working in the manufacturing area of the laboratory, performing functions related to the preparation and storage of blood and blood components in accordance with all regulatory and Canadian Blood Services’ policies, procedures and practices. Key responsibilities include:

  • Receive, assess and produce whole blood and apheresis platelets and plasma into requested blood components
  • Preparation and storage of blood components
  • End label and store blood components
  • Performs bacterial detection
  • Performs other laboratory duties as required
