Description:

Support the provision of drug testing services by Forensic Toxicology, within Queensland Health Forensic and Scientific Services by:

  • Accurately inputting specimens’ details into the Laboratory Information System and assigning and maintaining electronic storage locations for those specimens.
  • Managing the flow of samples into the laboratory, including their receival, storage, disposal and transfer.
  • Carrying out general tasks to ensure the efficient running of the laboratory.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately and efficiently transcribe and record information, within a high throughput environment, into a laboratory information management system. Demonstrated expertise and experience in the use of Auslab would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills around tasks such as handling, storage and maintaining continuity of biological samples as well as the maintenance of specimen storage areas.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and productively in a multi-skilled laboratory team.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out basic laboratory tasks such as chemical reagent preparation, calibration of laboratory equipment and related tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to comply with the laboratory’s policies and practices, including Workplace Health and Safety and continuous quality improvement requirements.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant will be expected to work with biological specimens such as, but not limited to blood, urine and oral fluid.
  • A criminal history check will be conducted on the recommended person for this job.
