SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Year 12 High School Certificate.
  • 1 year of Laboratory experience (desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills – Interpersonal, written and verbal.
  • Proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities to meet objectives.
  • Dedicated to maintaining safe work practices and environment.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to identify continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively build and maintain successful working relationships.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a team orientated Laboratory Assistant to join our Laboratory team located at our Tomago Branch.
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant is responsible for sorting, preparing and processing fluid samples (e.g. oil, coolant, grease) and conducting limited testing as required. This role will also see the successful candidate maintaining the consumables and laboratory instrument inventory to ensure the continuous efficient operation of the laboratory.
This position is offered as a permanent full time position working Monday to Friday, 8.5 hours per day and would be suitable for a science undergraduate university student.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and process all fluid samples in accordance with WesTrac laboratory policies and procedures: unpacking, registering, sorting, labelling, visual inspections and decanting.
  • Calibrating the Particle Quantifier and adequately perform testing in adherence with the relevant SWP.
  • Data Entry of sample information into the WesTrac LIMS system.
  • Ensure inventory levels are replenished and maintained by communicating effectively with the Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Contribute to the Continuous Improvement (CI) system by providing ideas for improvement and engagement with the Caterpillar Production System (CPS).
  • Ensure company safety procedures, safe working practices and Life Saving Rules are strictly followed, with the aim of reducing lost time incidents to zero.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and teams within the business.
