Description:

The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitoring and coding all reference lab exception letters to ensure proper patient billing;
  • Completing CLIA and state applications for renewal certificates, Laboratory Directors, and addition or removal of testing;
  • Coding CLIA and state-specific invoices for payment and monitoring receipt of certificates. Distributing copies to the appropriate departments once received;
  • Ensuring that each laboratory is appropriately enrolled in an approved proficiency testing program;
  • Reviewing all Proficiency Testing enrollment forms, coding bills for payment, and making all necessary changes for annual enrollment;
  • Reviewing all reference lab bills, coding bills for payment, and monitoring completion of change requests;
  • Maintaining files and materials necessary to set up new labs according to CLIA regulations;
  • Assisting the Director of Laboratory Services to ensure that instruments are set up in new labs and all necessary calibrations, accuracy, precision studies, and verifications are performed according to CLIA and state-specific guidelines;
  • Assisting with the review and compilation of data submitted by Laboratory Consultants;
  • Assisting Laboratory Consultants with coordinating competency evaluations of all new or transfer testing personnel at 6 and 12 months, and annually thereafter;
  • Monitoring completion and distributing results of annual competency assessment examination;
  • Revising existing test procedures as assigned by the Director of Laboratory Services;
  • Assisting with new product research and drafting of new procedures;
  • Attending meetings with the Director of Laboratory Services, Laboratory Consultants, and Director of Inspections as directed;
  • Scheduling and making necessary arrangements for Laboratory Supervisor meetings as directed;
  • Monitoring placement of educational and training documents for new or transferred staff into each laboratory;
  • Working with Materials Management to ensure lab inventory and instruments are sufficient and in working manner.

Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Employee must be 18 years of age or older;
  • At least one year of supervisory experience preferred;
  • Associate degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory sciences and four years of clinical experience in a moderate complexity laboratory or
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory sciences and two years of clinical experience in a moderate complexity laboratory.
  • Two years of training experience preferred;
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of medical laboratory science principles, concepts, and methodologies sufficient to perform a broad range of testing. Knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods sufficient to calculate and convert analytical data to test results is required;
  • Experience with laboratory compliance and billing is preferred;
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time (possibly four to seven hours at a time);
  • Must be able to lift moderate to heavy items (20 to 50 pounds);
  • Adequate visual, verbal, written, and typed communication skills required;
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with numerous tasks at one time;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and able to provide the highest quality medical care and professionalism.
