The Werklund School of Education invites applications for a Laboratory Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Laboratory Research Assistant reports to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Carly McMorris.
The successful applicant will provide research support to a longitudinal prospective cohort study examining parenting, brain development, and risk for anxiety and depression in youth. The Research Assistant will be responsible for data preparation, analyses, and preparation of manuscripts.
While stress levels are low in this role, moderate impact of errors can still occur. There is a responsibility to ensure that the daily operations of the unit are completed in an efficient and effective manner. This position will work both independently and in a team environment.
The Laboratory Research Assistant’s primary purpose is to assist with preparation and analysis of data as well as preparing manuscripts for publication. Success in the role will require some judgment and decision making, following procedures and guidelines set by the PI, and collaboration with the research team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Code and clean behavioural data (e.g.,questionnaires, interviews)
  • Analyze data
  • Perform data entry for studies and update databases
  • Compile tables, charts, graphs, and summarized statistics for integration in research papers and reports. This includes materials for presentation and publication
  • Process data using statistical software to conduct basic analyses of trends in support of the research project
  • Collect, consolidate, cross-tabulate and format data from various sources to prepare draft reports
  • Create outputs for non-academic audiences
  • Research Support
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Literature reviews
  • Communicate effectively with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Work in partnership with individuals with lived experience
  • Develop oral presentations, summaries, reports, and journal articles

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor Degree or MSc in Psychology, Social Work, or a related-field
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Advanced skills in statistical software programs (eg. SAS, STATA) is a strength
  • Preference will be given to those with Tri-Council Ethics Training, patient-engaged research, and data collection with children and youth
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with children or youth with neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism
  • Experience with administering various standardized measures (e.g., clinical interviewing or assessment tools) is a strengthIntermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint),
  • -Internet skills
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. Tri-Council). Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports, and conducting literature reviews for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • Strong written and oral skills for use in the development of oral presentations, summaries, reports, journal articles, systematic literature reviews and manuscripts, etc.
  • Proven ability to develop innovative and creative approaches to data analysis and problem solving would be an asset
  • Experience applying research skills across diverse settings would be an asset
  • Strength in qualitative methodological skills would be an asset
  • Strong verbal communication skills that can be modified for various populations
  • Flexibility and the ability to multi-task and effectively work with all employee groups, dealing with tact and diplomacy in all situations
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
