Bureau Veritas is looking for a

YOU ARE AN IDEAL LABORATORY SUPERVISOR IF YOU HAVE [MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS]:

Education and Experience:

  • B.Sc. with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years specific Microbiology laboratory experience
  • Experience at a preparatory level for supervision within an accredited Microbiology laboratory processing Environmental samples (i.e. Senior Analyst or Team Leader) is an asset.
  • Intimate knowledge of Standard Methods for Environmental Microbiology and the Program for the Accreditation of Laboratories (PALCAN) as defined by Standards Council of Canada (SCC)
  • Experience conducting and reporting microbiological method audits for specific client projects/regulations.

Leadership Skills:

  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and train junior staff.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills including the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels.
  • Dynamic, energetic, motivated, with a positive outlook and a “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to deal with different situations and personalities.
  • Good team building, training, and coaching skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Computer Skills:

  • Above average experience using Microsoft Word®, Excel®, Outlook®, and LIMS (MAXXLIMS).

  • Excellent up-to-date knowledge of laboratory process and automation.
  • Experience in developing and managing process flow and logistics within a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver on customer required Turn-Around Time for all samples.
  • Monitor lab supplies and equipment.
  • Co-ordinate requests or recommend resource planning (e.g. need for additional staff or equipment).
  • Elevate significant & complex resource issues to Manager.
  • Act as technical resource for Manager, Client Services and staff.
  • Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
  • Develop and nurture ongoing relationship with peers in other internal departments and its customers. Work to anticipate their needs and how the operation can meet and exceed their expectations.
  • With the Manager, assist in developing business plans that increase Bureau Veritas’ profile in the region.
  • Lead and develop staff - including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.
  • Handle performance and attendance management issues (with input from management and Human Resources).
  • Act as a positive change agent in supporting BV’s new initiatives (operational and cultural).
  • Continuous process improvement.
  • Keep work area clean, neat and organized.
  • Ensure adherence to any regulatory conditions required by external or internal clients (e.g. Regulated Drinking Water).
  • Support and comply with all BV policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
