Description:

Job Overview: Supervises, coordinates and participates in activities of employees performing routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical tests, as well as more complex procedures on blood that assist physicians in the diagnosis and clinical management of patients. Assumes responsibility for recognizing results or problems that require referral to Medical Director or Administrative Director. Performs additional tasks as requested by Medical Director or designee
As the Supervisor, you will provide day-to-day oversight of JCMC laboratories (inpatient and outpatient) at JCMC, Bayonne and Colony Plaza and oversee related laboratory operations. Take ownership of directing the Laboratory operations and support the entire JCMC laboratory and pathology service including bench work as needed. Supervise clinical operations of clinical laboratory department. Work closely with the Laboratory Director to coordinate a wide variety of administrative, technical, fiscal, and educational activities to provide quality laboratory services. Collaborate across multi-disciplinary groups representing the clinical labs. Organize, develop, plan, and implement Section and Departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary for providing quality patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or similar degree.
  • Must meet current NJ Sanitary Code Chapter 44, Chapter IV, 8:44-2.4 General Laboratory Supervisor qualifications.
  • 5 years progressive work experience in General Laboratory Services (Generalist).
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, computer skills and organizational skills required

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience managing a clinical laboratory team in a large hospital organization or trauma center.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
  • Current experience as a laboratory supervisor/manager.

License/Certifications:

  • Must meet all College of American Pathologists (CAP) and CLIA requirements.
  • Certified as MLS(ASCP) required or similar nationally recognized certification required.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full Time
  • Evening
  • The schedule for this position is full time, 5 days a week, weekend schedule is required. Must be available to respond off hours for emergency cases.

Responsibilities:

  • The general supervisor is responsible for day-to-day supervision or over sight of the Laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results for day shift, evening shift and night shift.
  • Must be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the Laboratory Director.
  • Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptance levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Assist the Administrative Director or designee with reports, including but not limited to productivity, quality, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Manage the operations of the department.
  • Maintain all quality and service standards.
  • Adhere to department budget.
  • Implement, enforce and monitor all QC, QA, service, safety and compliance indicators and programs.
  • Staff supervision including but not limited to training and competency assessment.
  • Perform interviews, hiring and participate in corrective action steps.
  • Annual employee performance evaluations.
  • Hold staff meetings and maintain minutes.
  • Produce, monitor and maintain productivity, quality and TAT metrics.
  • Prepare and revise SOP s and manuals.
  • Participation in inventory control.
  • Documentation and timely completion of special projects.
  • Oversee the cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Troubleshoot technical, equipment and computer related problems.
  • Validation of methodology and instrumentation.
  • Performs additional tasks as requested by Medical Director or designee.
