WHAT YOUR JOB WILL BE LIKE

We are seeking a R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to join our team supporting a range of projects related to our national security missions. The primary responsibility of this individual will be working closely with a team of scientists and engineers to manage materials’ synthesis and processing and documentation updates. The outcome of your work will directly impact Sandia’s ability to design, build, test, and deploy new hardware for Nuclear Deterrent and other national security programs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Collaborate across Sandia and other NNSA sites to manage projects and data
  • Collaborate with technical mentor to plan, design, set-up, and perform experiments/projects
  • Prepare and track documentation packets for material specification updates needed for production of hardware
  • Interface with engineers and scientists, stakeholders, and external partners to provide status and schedule updates on new or legacy material specifications
  • Work with a team to review material property data and understand data storage needs
  • Develop, test, and validate importers for uploading materials property data to a materials property database
  • Use your knowledge of materials science/engineering to help experimentalists develop and manage data acquisition
  • Record experimental procedures and collect data in notebooks
  • Interpret data using spreadsheets, graphs and statistical analysis
  • Document and present results to mentor and peers
  • Maintain Lab equipment and documentation

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

QUALIFICATIONS WE REQUIRE

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field plus 2 or more years of experience post degree, or equivalent combination of science and engineering education and/or experience
  • Experience in fiber reinforced composite, nanocomposite, composite, chemical, or molecular synthesis/manufacturing
  • Experience in mechanical, stress, or basic energy (X-ray, UV-Vis, or IR) materials characterization
  • Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

NNSA REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDPEDS

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
