Description:

The Ateneo de Manila University (Ateneo) is one of the leading universities in the Philippines. More than 150 years in existence, the Ateneo has grown into a major Jesuit institution. Officially it became a university in 1959. It offers over 100 academic degree programmes.
Ateneo offers Basic Education (Grade School, Junior and Senior High School). In addition, the Loyola Schools (college) is made up of four schools (Social Sciences; Humanities; Science and Engineering; and Management) that offer graduate and undergraduate degrees, with a total enrolment of about 10,000 students per year. The Ateneo has 4 professional schools located in 3 campuses in Quezon City, Makati City and Pasig City (Business; Government; Law; and Medicine and Public Health), with about 4,000 professional postgraduate students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge and skills in operation, maintaining and performing basic repair of laboratory instruments and equipment
Knowledge in preparation and disposal of various laboratory materials
Knowledge and skills in documenting operation and procedures relevant to laboratory operations, tracking inventory of consumables, procuring materials and equipment
Knowledge and skills in stock inventory of laboratory materials, consumables and instruments including procurement and disposal)
Knowledge and skills in the preparation of chemical standards, demonstration of equipment
Knowledge of proper laboratory safety and procedures
Good interpersonal and communication skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Science
With at least 1-year experience in laboratory settin

Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF WORK ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Science Subject Area Coordinator, the Laboratory Technician II assists the Science Teachers in the daily operations and maintenance of the Senior High School Laboratories.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Laboratory Work Support
Sets up equipment for demonstration purposes or laboratory experiments.
Prepares the materials, chemicals/reagents, apparatus and equipment needed by the students for their experiments or needed by teachers for demonstration purposes.
Assists in monitoring the students’ laboratory work and responds to the routine inquiries during a laboratory class.
Assists students in the use of laboratory materials and equipment for their assigned projects.
Recommends and improvises materials to help in the implementation of the laboratory experiments.
Sets up equipment for demonstration purposes or laboratory experiments during various school programs and departmental projects like the Special Remedial Program (SRP), Ateneo
Senior High School Advanced Classes (ASHAC) and Science Subject Area Outreach Seminar.
II. Laboratory Management Support
Prepares guide documents for laboratory user/s such as material safety data sheets and standard operation procedure.
Orients users of the laboratories about the proper handling of laboratory resources, including safety measures and protocols to be followed.
Attends to the general upkeep and maintenance of the laboratories and storage areas, ensuring that all resources are in orderly and properly secured
Performs regular and periodic maintenance checks and calibrations of laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring that they are working properly and efficiently, and performing minor repairs when needed.
Maintains and keeps record of inventories of the laboratory materials, instruments, equipment, etc; and makes the necessary purchase requisitions.
Assists in preparing procurement documents, requesting for quotations and job orders for items needed in the laboratory, which includes assisting in the bidding process for procuring laboratory equipment.
III. Performs other work-related tasks that may be assigned by supervisor and authorized representatives
