LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

We are currently seeking to recruit a Laboratory Technician to join our Blood Sciences Laboratory (multi disciplinary). This is an excellent opportunity for a medical laboratory techinician looking to grow and progress in their career. Job Description
The main responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician are the processing of QC and samples in Autolab and maintaining all aspects of instrumentation including calibration, maintenance and stock control. Maintain ISO 15189 standards including records according to SOP. Use of Laboratory Information Management System in generating reports for clients. Deal with incoming departmental queries.

EDUCATION

  • Diploma or Bachelor Degree in Biological Science

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in an Automated/Blood Sciences Laboratory environment desirable

KNOWLEDGE

  • General knowledge of working on automated Chemistry and Haematology instrumentation desirable.
  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role

Responsibilities:

  • Use of Laboratory Information Management Systems in place in the laboratory.
  • Be aware and be compliant with of all the documentation related to your Department - Training record, SOP’s, Forms.
  • Assist in the completion of the department’s daily tasks, including work files, to a high standard to ensure patient results are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the processing of samples incorporating automated and manual methods of analysis to include pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests to a high quality and as required in accordance with departmental SOP’s.
  • Perform sample analysis and sample preparation in a timely manner.
  • Remove all the samples from the analyzers and check to see that the samples have been processed before storing them.
  • Perform:
  • Instrument maintenance.
  • Assay calibration as required.
  • Reagent, Calibrator and Control preparation as required.
  • Troubleshooting, as necessary.
  • Ensure that:
  • Reagents are replenished and are adequately available on the analyzers.
  • Appropriate quality controls have been processed for all analytes.
  • Maintenance logs have been filled out.
  • Management of new lot number for:
  • Reagent
  • Calibrator
  • Control
  • Fill out the handover sheet.
  • Kelsius monitoring - Attend to the alarms and take the necessary actions.
  • Participate in the management of reagent and consumable stock levels.
  • Advise of any equipment failures or problems encountered while carrying out his/her duties.
  • QC result data entry.
  • Ensure all waste is adequately treated and disposed of as per SOP G23 and that all waste is removed as required to the waste facilities.
  • To assist/rotate through all of the divisions.
  • Maintenance of instrumentation.
  • Clean/disinfect working areas daily.
  • Demonstrate Good Laboratory Practice.
