Description:

As a Lab Technician II, this position will be supporting the laboratory of Dr. Christina Towers. They will help ensure all reagents and supplies are stocked, properly ordered, and inventoried. They will help ensure EHS protocols are followed throughout the lab. They will manage lab equipment and coordinate any necessary cleanings or repairs. They will also help the senior post-doctoral fellows with experiments including cell and molecular biology experimentation.
The Lab Technician will work closely alongside post-doctoral fellows who will provide direct supervision. The role involves receiving comprehensive training in various research techniques to offer valuable research support. The Lab Technician will be responsible for conducting experiments designed by the post-doctoral fellows and ensuring precise execution, documentation, and organization of experimental procedures and outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 1 year of general lab experience (i.e., internships in a laboratory setting)
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills required: (Select all applicable): Accounting Software; Contract Management Systems; Development Software; Human Resource Systems; Inventory Software; Microsoft Office; Payroll Systems; Project Management Software)
  • Other skills (preferred):
  • Familiarity with specific laboratory techniques or equipment relevant to the Institute’s operations (i.e., flow cytometry, splicing, cryo, working with mice, etc.)
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards.

Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs general tasks and completes routine assignments.
  • Receives assistance in the completion of more complex assignments.
  • Developing proficiency within a discipline.
  • Works under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment and makes detailed observations as needed.
  • Tissue culturing of various human and rodent cell lines
  • Preparing and quality control of buffers, factors, and culture media as needed.
  • Molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction, westerns, and restriction digests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
