Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Labour and Employee Relations, this role will create and provide a comprehensive range of analytical and support services to all labour relations processes, including collective bargaining preparation and grievance/arbitration administration. This role will lead the LR component of CBA implementations and ongoing support.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.
Responsibilities:
- Create a robust and repeatable collective bargaining preparation process ensuring alignment to labour relations, Human resources and corporate strategy
- Create and deploy a grievance and arbitration data capture and reporting process
- Work with Finance and Accounting department to ensure agreements/settlements are fully costed, captured and allocated properly within the organization
- Conduct research and analysis for benchmarking purposes within relevant market sectors. Interpret information researched and provide analysis on the monetary implications of all scenarios. Prepare costing scenarios during collective bargaining negotiations.
- Works in conjunction with Payroll, Finance and Benefits to prepare and assist the Labour Relations Team in resolving grievances, mediations and arbitrations.
- Summarizes legal decisions and synthesizes information with collective agreements, policies, and data to support recommendations by LR Managers/Directors.
- Modify and revise the existing collective agreement which incorporates all newly negotiated changes, revisions and deletions to form part of the newly created collective agreement.
- Support and represent the Labour Relations team in the HR Workday implementation to ensure the Workday HR system is configured to reflect Extendicare’s collective bargaining agreements’ terms and conditions
Skills and Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to candidates possessing a post secondary education in Labour or Industrial Relations or equivalent experience in a highly unionized public sector environment.
- Well developed research, reasoning, mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience preparing cost-analysis and presentation to senior executives
- Strong knowledge of Labour Relations and Labour Law as well as knowledge and awareness of employment related legislation.
- Knowledge of the collective bargaining process is required.
- Superior and proficient understanding of computer systems (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe).
- Experience working with a modern HCM system (example, Workday, Dayforce)
