Description:
Summary of Duties:
The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing a supportive and nurturing environment for antenatal and postpartum women. The main functions of the Lactation Consultant include, but are not limited to: identifying and consulting on basic and complex breastfeeding problems and developing appropriate breastfeeding plans. In addition, the Lactation Consultant will be required to:
- Teach breastfeeding classes to both groups and one on one
- Provide breastfeeding aides correctly
- Collaborate with other disciplines to plan care
- Act as a referral resource for both antenatal and breastfeeding women
- Attend quarterly Breastfeeding Clinic Meetings
- Participate in scheduled Journal Club Meetings
- Participate in extra Breastfeeding Clinic projects
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- IBCLC certificate is mandatory
- Recent related experience ideally in an outpatient breastfeeding clinic is mandatory
- Demonstrated evidence of self-directed practice
- Demonstrated good clinical judgement and problem solving skills
- Experienced with High Risk Neonates required
- CPR certification is required
