SUMMARY:

This Law Clerk will support the Legal Team in Ontario. This role includes reviewing and drafting a variety of contracts, real estate related documentation, and documents of a commercial nature. This work will be done under the supervision of a lawyer. The role also involves being responsible for obtaining, renewing, and retaining records of licensing documentation for all stores in Ontario. The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative support to the Senior Director and the legal team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Law Clerk accreditation
  • 1 to 3 years office experience
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft programs, including Microsoft Outlook
  • Excellent team player, eager to work and gain knowledge and skills within a collegial legal team environment
  • This position is required to be at the office 2 days a week

Responsibilities:

  • Review and draft a variety of contracts within the commercial practice of the law department, including areas such as real estate, marketing, procurement, transportation, and pharmacy
  • Manage the store licensing process, including apply and obtain all licenses required for each store (business, lottery, propane, tobacco, signs, and elevator licenses); renew licenses; retain records and notify stores if inspections are required
  • As needed, prepare legal memorandums for lawyers’ review
  • Assist lawyers with transactional work, as necessary
  • Assist lawyers with legal research
  • Coordinate and attend meetings, as required, take minutes, and follow up with internal and external parties on behalf of the legal team
  • Open and close legal files (electronic and paper) in accordance with established system
  • Perform all aspects of file administration
  • Draft and prepare basic correspondence and other documents for professional approval/signature using precedents
