REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- A College diploma in Law Clerk studies
- A minimum of five (5) years or more relevant work experience
- Significant knowledge of relevant work place legislation
- Strong knowledge of Federal Tax Court practice, Federal Court practice and Ontario Court practice for select tax matters
- Knowledge of Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure is required
- Member in good standing with the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario is required
- Knowledge of electronic evidence best practices is required
- Familiarity corresponding with Canada Revenue Agency, Ontario Ministry of Finance, Department of Justice, Ministry of the Attorney General and the registries of the Tax Court, Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal
- Proficiency with computers and common office software, including MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Knowledge of practice technology (Relativity, ACL, InTapp, iManage) is required
- Experience providing mentoring to junior/intermediate law clerks would be an asset
- Familiarity with litigation technology tools such as Relativity and Summation would be an asset
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience is acceptable
Responsibilities:
- Preparation and filing of authorization forms
- Preparation and filing of waivers
- Preparation and filing of election forms
- Requests for information (ATIP, FOI)
- Preparation of affidavits
- Query responses, motions, applications and disclosures
- Draft routine correspondence, memoranda and reports
- Assist in the preparation of originating applications, pleadings, motion records, etc.
- Collaborate with counsel on examinations for discovery and cross-examinations on affidavits
- Prepare for and attend at examinations, hearings and/or trial when required
- Collaborate with E-Discovery professionals to ensure successful management of electronic documentary evidence for the appropriate Court process
- Document organization, database management, including searching and organization of electronic client evidence
