Description:
APRA AMCOS represents globally 119,000 members who are songwriters, composers and music publishers in Australia and NZ. We license organisations to play, perform, copy or record our members’ music, and we distribute the royalties to our members.
An incredibly rewarding permanent full-time opportunity has become available where you can put your technical legal skills to use and work collaboratively with business specialists across several disciplines.
The work is multifaceted and therefore requires a self-motivated, skilled lawyer with strong work ethics. An understanding of copyright, contracts, consumer affairs and/or competition law would be advantageous.
In this role you will support the Legal Services department to minimise legal and other risks across a broad cross-section of the APRA AMCOS organisation.
The key functions of the Legal Services team are to:
- provide practical, timely and accessible legal advice to internal stakeholders across the business.
- manage potential copyright infringement litigation.
- formulate and draft critical licensing agreements.
- manage and resolve licensee and member disputes and complaints.
educate internal and external stakeholders about regulatory and legal compliance.handle licensing negotiations and industry consultations.
To be successful in this role, you should:
- have at least 2 years’ experience working in legal practice, with experience in a Corporate Law firm an advantage; and
- be able to demonstrate:
- excellent comprehension and writing abilities;
- the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and independently within defined guidelines;
- proactivity in resolving matters, problem solving, raising queries and initiating tasks;
- strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills with simultaneous tasks, varying deadlines and urgent matters;
a high degree of attention to detail and a focus on accuracy of work produced; andthe ability to develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders across all APRA AMCOS departments.
